Introduction

Hello,

My name is Ellie and I’d like to welcome you to my blog! I’m an Advertising and Public Relations Major with a Graphic Design Minor here at the University of Tampa. I’m a junior, so as my college career is coming to a close, my goal is to work in the creative department of an advertising agency (in Boston if I can be picky) by this time next year.

Other than spending time taking classes for my major, I love going to the beach (which is one of the many reasons I chose to study in Florida) and cooking (mostly Trader Joes frozen meals). I play around with photography as well and I love exercising outdoors and being healthy. Other than that, I’m spending my time here at UT saving up and building my portfolio so I can one day do freelance work and travel the world (I studied abroad for a semester in Australia and would love to one day pick up and move there…another dream of mine).

As for why I’m taking Art and Technology…. well it was a requirement for my major, but the class actually seems pretty interesting. It looks like we’re about to jump into a bunch of different projects, all using different medias and technologies. Also, I want to make a living off making designs while using software (aka technology) so this seems like a good idea to me.

    I'm curious, over the semester in Australia, did you have an opportunity to perfect the Vegemite sandwich?

Xerox Art

Hello everyone!! This is my xerox art project. I have always been inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's art and took some of his elements and incorporated them into my latest art piece. I was required to make the entire piece out of xeroxes of my own body parts, which at first seemed to be impossible and extremely limiting. I was left feeling almost hopeless, having no idea what to create. When I was able to get a xerox machine at a friends apartment, I decided to just dive right in. Since my hair is dyed to be almost white, it came out extremely cool on the xerox and i ran with it. After seeing how my hair turned out I decided to go for a "The Starry Night" inspired piece. The dark parts of my hair I put together to form a full moon, which Van Gogh incorporates in his own piece. Then I placed other parts of my lighter colored hair throughout the sky to make a wavy night concept that Van Gogh is famous for. Next, I xeroxed my arms and fingers. Interview with Raul Cuero

Hello Everyone! I recently had the chance to watch an interview with Raul Cuero, a famous microbiologist. The interview was based around his views on creativity and what it means to really be creative. The first thing I took away from the interview was Raul Cuero’s inspiring life story. He came from a poor background in Colombia, where his dream of being a microbiologist was looked at as just that, only a dream. He overcame obstacles including racism and prejudice, accounting all the criticism as motivation to make him stronger. Another thing I took away was Raul Cuero’s opinions on intensity and how much it affects creativity. He drilled into my head that in order to be creative, artists must put all they have into their work. Intensity and passion are key ingredients to the success Raul Cuero achieved. Without them, his crazy dream of being a microbiologist would have never been achieved. Listening to Raul speak made me reflect on my own hope...
