Final Video

For my video deconstruction I decided to take someone's normal every day life with technology and put a twist on it. I started by filming my friend doing typical tasks everyone does throughout their day, such as waking up, doing laundry, watching tv and using their laptop. In-between those scenes I put different clips of an animation I found online, that connected with what was happening at the moment. I was hoping to tie it into what the main character was imagining in his head at the moment, but without making it too obvious, to play on the deconstructed element. I decided to make the "real life" scenes black and white to portray them as dull and boring, and to have the animation clips stand out more! I put suspenseful music in the background of the "real life scenes" to put the audience on edge, wondering what the outcome of the typical day will be.

The audience does not find out the outcome until the last few moments of the video. The main character goes to bed and the video switches to the animation, where it shows how much technology exhausts humans.

I think this relates to class because all semester we have discussed the advances of technology and how it has positively impacted society. However, with positives negatives follow as well.  People have become addicted to televisions, computers and phones. It seems as though most of our waking hours are spent behind screens, and it is scary to think our "value" and "productivity" are reliant on how well we can use the technology that surrounds us. In the end, it is not natural and does leave human beings mentally and physically exhausted.

Hope you enjoy my final (:

Interview with Raul Cuero

Hello Everyone! I recently had the chance to watch an interview with Raul Cuero, a famous microbiologist. The interview was based around his views on creativity and what it means to really be creative. The first thing I took away from the interview was Raul Cuero’s inspiring life story. He came from a poor background in Colombia, where his dream of being a microbiologist was looked at as just that, only a dream. He overcame obstacles including racism and prejudice, accounting all the criticism as motivation to make him stronger. Another thing I took away was Raul Cuero’s opinions on intensity and how much it affects creativity. He drilled into my head that in order to be creative, artists must put all they have into their work. Intensity and passion are key ingredients to the success Raul Cuero achieved. Without them, his crazy dream of being a microbiologist would have never been achieved. Listening to Raul speak made me reflect on my own hope...

Madama Butterfly Response

In Pjotr Sapegin’s Madama Butterfly animation, a love story comes to life. A woman meets a sailor and falls in love with him. They sleep together, which was a little weird and graphic compared to the normal Claymation videos I am used to (aka Rudolf the red nose reindeer) and shortly after the sailor leaves. She later finds out she is pregnant and is overjoyed to tell the sailor upon his return. However, when the sailor does return he comes in a car filled with his assumed wife and children. They take the women’s child along with them and the women is left heartbroken (who wouldn’t be).   At the end, she takes her own life and is blown away with the breeze. In the afterlife, she is at peace with her life.             My first thought after watching this opera was how impressed I was with the intense emotion of passion and depression they could portray in a stop-motion animation. Secondly, I think the music was really well do...

Music and its many genres.....

Hello Everyone! Welcome back to my blog (: For my next class assignment I had to choose 5 different music "movements" from a list my professor created and add one group/musician/preformer to that category, especially related to the usage of technology. Why did I choose this artist? Why did I consider their work fits with technology and electronic music in their context? ......Here goes nothing!! GIRL POWER- An artist that deserves to be in this category is Demi Lovato. For starters, her 'Sorry Not Sorry' album was pronounced "The Ultimate Girl Power Anthem" in 2017. Her fiery, uptempo lyrics inspired women to stand up for themselves and ignore anyone who tries to bring them down. She has been in the spotlight since she started her acting career on Disney and slowly transitioned to becoming a musician later in her teenage years. During this time period, she battled with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and an eating disorder. After taking time off she ...
